Anne Schiesel

Clay has a way of paying attention. I am drawn to its ability to record experience- to hold a line, impression, texture or pattern. Working intuitively, I explore the connection between my inner life and the physical act of making. I am interested in surface: marks inspired by nature, the human made world, memory and observation. Returning to clay has been a process of reclaiming something I have always loved and discovering where that relationship can take me now.

I am a ceramic artist living and working in Highland. I have a B.F.A. In ceramics and have worked in clay for most of my life. I make hand-built sculpture, tiles and functional work in porcelain exhibiting and selling at national craft shows for 25 years. After some time away I am returning to the studio with renewed curiosity and connection to a material that has always felt like home.
