Philip Whitebay

I most enjoy trying new ways of expressing myself, so I work in many different mediums – photography, stained glass, lamp work beads, jewelry, painting, stick figures, and most recently furniture.

I use the hidden grain of the wood to show what no one sees until we look inside. Sometimes the wood says table, sometimes bowl or breadboard. The branch in the wood pile says to me it's not just a stick but a jazz dancer, surfer or lumber jack. You must look and imagine. That’s the fun.

Phil Whitebay, born in Cedar Grove, NJ, has been a resident of Highland for over 40 years. He received a BFA in Photography from RIT. After serving his country in the Navy, much of his career was spent in manufacturing. Learning by renovating several houses of his own, he became a contractor and did home improvements for others. He concluded his professional career working at Lowes in Highland.
