Lawrence Friedberg

My process is deeply intuitive and expressive, allowing the subconscious to guide each stage of the painting. The use of texture with gesso and oil paint adds a tactile dimension that aligns beautifully with my architectural and sculptural background. The emphasis on creating the "thingness" of each piece adds a profound dimension to the work, focusing on the intrinsic essence of the painting itself. This concept enriches the journey from subconscious inspiration to a fully realized form.

Lawrence Friedberg, an architect and artist, has devoted six decades to architecture, with more than 40 years practicing in New York City. Throughout his life as an artist, the primary motivation has always been on the production of his art, with a focus and dedication to the creative process itself. Only in recent years has Friedberg begun to more actively share his work with the world. Over the years he has exhibited in New York City galleries and placed pieces with corporate clients, including Fortune 500 companies.

His paintings are informed by a rich architectural background, where precision and spatial awareness meet abstract expressionism. This fusion results in works that blend structure with free-flowing form. Friedberg's early experiences, including his time in Liberia as a Peace Corps Volunteer, have added depth and a global perspective to his art, but it is his years of practice in architecture and love of the artistic impulse that most directly shape his painting.
